Pershore Plum Festival

Think Pershore, Think Purple, Think Plums

Pershore6

Pershore will be going plum crazy this summer as it endeavours to turn purple in celebration of the fruit that has made it so famous. An internationally acclaimed event, the Pershore Plum Festival is a unique and quirky event with activities to suit the whole family cumulating over August Bank Holiday Weekend!

This year the Festival is focusing heavily upon plum heritage and especially “How the Pershore Plum won the Great War”

Throughout the First World War food became a major issue with shortages spreading across Britain. In response to this the plums of Pershore were delivered around the country to be used to produce jams, chutneys and puddings and became a big contributor to the war effort. This was officially commemorated in 1927 when Great Western Railways named one of their trains – The Pershore Plum.
